UAE Lottery Authority Warns Against Illegal Operators Ahead of First National Draw

Abu Dhabi, UAE – As the inaugural draw of the UAE National Lottery approaches on Saturday, December 14, the Federal Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA) issued a warning on December 9 regarding the risks posed by unlicensed lottery and gaming operators. The GCGRA emphasized that The Game LLC is the only licensed operator of the UAE National Lottery.

Exclusive Licence for The Game LLC

In July 2024, The Game LLC was granted the exclusive license to operate the UAE National Lottery. Tickets for the first draw, named “Lucky Day,” featuring a grand prize of AED 100 million, have been available since November 27.

Under federal regulations established by the GCGRA, only two other lotteries are allowed to continue operations in the UAE: Big Ticket, located at Abu Dhabi International Airport, and Dubai Duty Free. All other existing lotteries have been ordered to cease operations.

Impact on Previous Operators

Two prominent operators, Mahzooz and Emirates Draw, halted their UAE operations on January 1, 2024, following GCGRA directives. Mahzooz has announced plans to diversify into other gaming sectors, while Emirates Draw is exploring licenses for other business verticals.

Risks of Using Illegal Operators

The GCGRA has outlined significant risks for players engaging with unlicensed operators, including:

  • Financial loss;
  • Fraud or theft of personal data;
  • Exposure to malware or phishing attacks;
  • Involvement in criminal or regulatory investigations.

Kevin Mullally, Director General of the GCGRA, stated:
“Adhering to the law safeguards your personal and financial security while upholding the integrity of our community. If you choose to participate, only play with licensed operators.”

Mullally also cautioned advertisers, payment service providers, and other business partners about potential penalties for collaborating with unlicensed operators.

Focus on Compliance and Consumer Protection

The GCGRA underscored the importance of choosing operators who adhere to strict consumer protection and security standards. The inaugural UAE National Lottery draw marks a pivotal moment for the sector, offering a regulated and legal framework for gaming enthusiasts.
