Bosnian Tennis Official Banned for Four Years Over Integrity Violations

A Bosnian tennis official, Damjan Dejanovic, has been handed a four-year suspension by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) for breaching the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP). The violations included betting on professional matches and tampering with match data.

  • Damjan Dejanovic, who officiated at ITF $15K events, was found guilty of six violations committed between 2022 and 2023.
  • He admitted to betting on tennis matches but denied allegations of data manipulation and conspiracy to commit corruption.
  • A virtual hearing on October 9, 2024, confirmed his involvement, resulting in a suspension effective until January 7, 2028.

Sanctions Imposed

Dejanovic received a fine of €5,000 (approximately $5,313 USD). During the suspension period, he is prohibited from participating in or attending any tennis events sanctioned by major governing bodies, including the ATP, WTA, ITF, and Tennis Australia. This ban applies to both national and international competitions.

Broader Context

This case is part of a broader crackdown by the ITIA on corruption within tennis. Last month, three Nigerian players were penalised for match-fixing violations linked to a corruption network dismantled in 2023. The network’s leader received a five-year prison sentence.

The ITIA’s actions highlight an increasing commitment to maintaining the integrity of tennis and deterring fraudulent practices.
