Aristocrat Ranks Second in FiNTEL Sustain 2024 Sustainability Plus
Aristocrat, a leading global gaming company, has secured the second position in FiNTEL Sustain’s 2024 Sustainability Plus ranking, thanks to its integrated approach to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices and its commitment to stakeholder engagement.
A Holistic ESG Strategy Embedded in Operations
Harry Ashton, Aristocrat’s Group General Manager of Sustainability, highlighted the company’s collective approach to sustainability, stating:
“Sustainability at Aristocrat is a collective effort involving the entire company. It is embedded in our strategy, operations, and the culture of our teams worldwide. This reflects our long-term commitment to the communities where we operate, while serving our customers and players.”
The company’s ESG policies cover various aspects, including responsible gaming, data protection, cybersecurity, anti-modern slavery measures, and anti-corruption practices. These initiatives are supported by comprehensive training and awareness campaigns.
Aristocrat also prioritises diversity, equity, and inclusion in its recruitment processes, with targeted programs for senior executives and board members.
Extending ESG Efforts Across the Value Chain
Aristocrat’s ESG commitment goes beyond internal operations. Ashton noted the company’s efforts to collaborate with suppliers and customers to promote sustainability throughout its value chain:
“For example, we work closely with our suppliers through surveys and by enforcing our supplier code of conduct. We also partner with our customers on responsible gaming technologies and conduct awareness campaigns for players.”
This industry-wide trend reflects the growing importance of sustainability in the gaming sector, though Ashton acknowledged varying levels of ESG maturity across regions and market segments.
Progressing Towards a Stronger ESG Framework
Currently completing a three-year ESG strategy cycle (2022-2024), Aristocrat is conducting a comprehensive review to shape its next phase. Key achievements include embedding sustainability into its systems, processes, and annual performance objectives for employees.
The company plans to expand its sustainability disclosures to meet evolving stakeholder expectations and regulatory requirements. Efforts include integrating sustainability practices into financial and operational systems for improved reporting and coordination.
Recognition and Continuous Improvement
On being ranked second in the inaugural Sustainability Plus ranking, Ashton attributed the achievement to the dedication of Aristocrat’s teams, backed by executive leadership and board support.
“While this recognition is encouraging, we understand that sustainability is a journey of continuous improvement. Stakeholder expectations are constantly evolving, and we adapt our ESG program accordingly,” he said.
